Traditional Wai Ora Massage
The signature therapy of the Wai Ora Spa is its unique massage regime, the Traditional NZ Wai Ora massage based on elements of the Maori “Miri Miri” massage that has been used for more than 700 years in New Zealand for HEALING, RELAXATION and PREPAREDNESS. This last attribute was very important to the Maori as this was a part of how warriors would prepare themselves for battle

This full body massage starts from the feet working towards the heart and finishes with a head and face massage. The feet are first washed signifying the leaving of worldly cares and woes behind allowing the full value of the massage therapy to weave its magic. A Karakia (prayer or blessing) is offered up on behalf of the massage recipient and massage therapist at the commencement and conclusion of the massage therapy to uplift the spirit. The hands are washed before the therapist massages the head and face as these areas are considered sacred to the Maori.

For the uninitiated, the traditional NZ Wai Ora massage includes elements of deep tissue massage techniques, gentle joint manipulation, lymphatic drainage, gentle stretching, energy balancing and relaxation techniques. Ideal for relieving muscle soreness, promotion of relaxation and maintains overall general wellbeing.

The oil used is our own “Alite’’ massage oil from New Zealand, a penetrating oil blend containing Manuka oil (a traditional Maori healing herb) that leaves the skin smooth, soft and supple to the touch. The oil is an exceptional moisturizer.
The Traditional NZ Wai Ora Massage is available as a 30 minute and 60 minute therapy.

Aromatherapy Massage
The Aromatherapy Massage at Wai Ora Spa is a unique blend of oil massage techniques from New Zealand and Thailand. Unlike other oil massages the massage is a full body massage finishing with the head and face. It incorporates a number of massage techniques including gentle pressure point therapy, Swedish oil massage type strokes, gentle Thai massage style stretching and elements of Maori massage resulting in a relaxing, soothing massage experience.
The client has a choice of oils that can be used including:
• The “Alite” massage oil which contains the essences of a number of New Zealand herbs including Manuka providing a relaxing while invigorating massage experience
• The “Pacifica” massage oil blend extracted as a byproduct of grapes from Australia together with vanilla providing a warm, relaxed massage experience.
• The “Pacifica” massage oil blend with coconut, vanilla and leelawadee that soothes and moisturizers the skin while relaxing the mind and body.
The Aromatherapy Massages are available as a 60 minute massage therapy

Thai Massage
The traditional Thai Massage is an ancient Thai healing therapy that incorporates a blend of stretching, acupressure, reflexology and compression done in a gentle rocking movement. In Thai massage the therapist uses the hands, feet, forearms, knees and elbows to free tension from the body. As well as the physical aspects of Thai massage there is an embedded spirituality in its practice as exemplified in the “Four divine states of Mind” of Buddhist teaching namely loving, compassion, vicarious joy and equanimity.
Thai massage is administered without oil and the massage recipient is fully clothed throughout the procedure. The massage has a number of Holistic benefits including relaxation, relieves muscle tension, improves metabolism, lymphatic drainage and blood circulation as well as providing a feeling of wellbeing assisting in retaining the balance of mind, body and spirit. Wai Ora Spa therapists can deliver he Thai massage therapy at the client’s specific pressure requirements.
The Thai massage is available as a 60 minute massage therapy.

Hydrotherapy Massage
The NZ Wai Ora hydrotherapy massage utilizes the unique hot mineral pools in association with special massage techniques to promote well being. This therapy iis based on the healing traditions that have been used at our geothermal reserve by Maori for hundreds of years. The recuperative and healing properties of the NZ Wai Ora hydrotherapy massage are based on the mechanical and thermal sensations of the therapy on the body which are transmitted deep into the body stimulating the immune system, boosting blood circulation and releasing tight muscles.
The 60 minute programme consists of a 30 minute hydrotherapy massage in the green hot mineral pool held at a constant temperature of 38 – 39 degrees Celsius, followed by a 10 minute soothing soak in the red mineral pool which has a temperature of 35 degrees Celsius. A 20 minute infra red deep heat sauna completes the hydrotherapy massage.
The benefits that can result from this very different therapy in addition to those already mentioned include improving body tone, relief from stress, exfoliation and rejuvenation of the skin as well as reduced anxiety levels.
Bathing costumes and all other requirements are supplied to the client as part of the therapy. The NZ Wai Ora Hydrotherapy massage is a 60 minute therapy

Body Scrubs
The body scrub treatments offered include the NZ Wai Ora Body Scrub, Mask and Lotion as well as the Pacifica Body Scrub. Both body treatments involve gentle exfoliation of the skin promoting skin rejuvenation followed by the complete moisturizing of the skin resulting in clean, soft and supple skin.

NZ Wai Ora Body Scrub, Mask and Lotion
The NZ Wai Ora Body Scrub , Mask and Lotion is a three step treatment using our exclusive “ALITE” spa products containing geothermal mud and natural New Zealand essences. As a therapy the regime is suitable for even sensitive skin types.
The three step therapy includes the following:
STEP 1
Body Scrub and Polish to gently exfoliate skin and clear pores
STEP 2
Mud mask to absorb oils and fatty secretions as well as provide trace elements including selenium
STEP 3
Body lotion to moisturize and protect the skin

The NZ Wai Ora Body Scrub, Mask and Lotion is a 90 minute treatment that has been described as the ultimate pampering experience suitable for both women and men.

Pacifica Body Scrub and Lotion
The Pacifica body scrub is a two step therapy using the Shiraz body scrub made from the grapes of Australia along with a hint of chocolate and oak which removes the build up of dead skin cells, cosmetic residues and toxins. This is followed by the application of the “Alite” body lotion, a penetrating highly moisturizing lotion that leaves the skin soft, smooth and supple to touch.

The Pacifica body scrub and lotion is a 60 minute therapy.
